Creating Links

insert, manage and break links

Hyperlinks are often very useful in creating a  web site.  They allow your site to lead to all different sections, helping the flow of your site.  Links are a great way of giving a user access to all areas in your site with the click of a button.  They can also be very useful for leading a viewer to another external website that may be useful (such as a resources website).   Also, the Mail Link can be useful to help direct viewers to an email form with a predefined recipient email address that you want to direct the emails to.

Internal Links

Make sure you have created at least one page/collection and one other file type that you want to link internally on your site. Open one of these pages, and click Edit in the toolbar to get to the edit screen. Highlight some text that you want to create a link for and click on the Link icon shown in the
photo above.

The following Insert Link box will appear:

You can navigate around in this window to find the page that you want to link to. If you don't see any pages at first, try clicking on Home in the leftmost column. This should bring up a listing of the contents for your web site, as shown in the preceding screenshot. You can also use the Search box in the upper right corner of the Insert Link window to locate the page that you want to link to. Often times clicking on "up one level" helps you move up step by step through your folder structure.

Under the top advanced button you can define how the link opens up. Often times it is preferential to open links up in a new window, especially if they are external links to not loose your customers.

For the time being, ignore the Link to anchor menu and just proceed with the default selection. Click on the Ok button in the lower-right corner of the Insert Link window to finish creating your Internal Link. You're all done! Save the page that you are working on to try out the link. Your linked text should appear slightly blue and underlined, to differentiate it from normal unlinked text.
